Homes of The Foothills
You may remember our initial glimpse of the magnificent Cliffside house, back in March, when we had the pleasure of speaking with the talented Designer behind this custom home, Josh Harvey. Now, we are excited to catch up with the build team to see how the progress on this stunning home is coming along. We chatted with Steven Chan, Owner of Carmanah Projects to take a peek at progress.
Q: What process level are you at for this home now?
Steven: We are just getting into the fun framing. We’ve nearly completed the 1st floor framing, with numerous cantilevers, custom inverted hangers, and impressively large, engineered beams.
Q: When is completion being earmarked for?
Steven: Summer 2024...good things take time!
Q: Does the home have an official name yet?
Steven: Designer Josh Harvey has coined it the 'Cliffside House', for obvious reasons.
Q: How closely do you work with Josh Harvey (Designer) as well the homeowner during the process?
Steven: We work extremely closely with Josh Harvey; this is his baby. The homeowner is actively engaged in all decision-making processes, ensuring their vision and preferences are incorporated into every aspect of the build. Alongside Josh’s oversight, we have the pleasure of working closely with Kristine Bennett, our talented Interior Designer, and Bianca from Biophilia Design, who is diligently crafting our landscape designs.
Q: Have there been any design elements that have had to change once the build process commenced?
Steven: There have been some minor design tweaks here and there, which is quite common as we progress through the build process. However, overall, Josh’s initial plan was exceptionally well thought out and prepared from the very beginning.
Q: What milestones of the build stand out in your mind/or were the most critical to see checked off.
Steven: The framing starting to take shape is a significant milestone. It’s truly gratifying to see the complex engineering come to life, especially with the cantilevers extending out over the cliffside. Looking ahead, another milestone will be the installation of the glazing. With the abundant number of windows, this phase will play a pivotal role in shaping the character of the home. The windows are coming from Europe, and we are eagerly awaiting their arrival.
Q: Any other homes at The Foothills that Carmanah is working on, on top of this one?
Steven: At the moment, this is our sole project at The Foothills. However, we have another one scheduled to commence in summer 2024.
