The Foothills Builder Series: Invictus Construction
In this series we are getting to know the custom home builders that create the beautiful homes at The Foothills. Today we are talking with Tomas Minka, Co-Owner and Principal of Invictus Construction.
Q: Tell us about your start in the world of construction and home building.
I immigrated to Canada in 2004, in my early 20’s. I came with the intention of staying one year in Vancouver, but I never ended up leaving the West Coast.
I took the Building Construction Technology program at BCIT, as well a tenure at UBC and the Project Management Institute, while I was getting my start in construction. After working for different companies in the Lower Mainland, I decided to work as a freelance project manager in 2011. Shortly after that, I met my now business partner Jake Snowden. Jake was more of a tactician on the finance and marketing side, and I was growing my expertise in project management and home construction, so we combined our skill sets and Invictus Construction was founded in 2017.
Q: What projects have you worked on since that time.
We have built around 30 houses in that time. It’s a great synergy with our Invictus team. Jake finds the lots, manages the financing and sale of the property, and I manage the build. We have a very lean team, by design, so we can be as efficient as possible in our build strategies. You can see a lot of our team’s work in the Langford region, Bowen Island and now The Foothills.
Here is a look at the King Edward Bay development on Bowen Island Invictus collaborated on.
Q: What work in The Foothills are you currently involved with?
We are excited to be the active builder for The Foothills and are currently working on The Foothills Lot 1 property. This rancher home (link to blog on Lot 1), scheduled for completion early 2023 will be the show home and home base for The Foothills team. There are a few more lots within the most recent phase that we are also building for, starting next year.
Q: Where can people find you when you aren’t busy on site or with a current project?
I am a short drive down the highway from The Foothills, as I call Cowichan Valley home.
