In this series we are getting to know the custom home builders that create the beautiful homes atThe Foothills. Today we are talking with Darren Seaman, Owner and Operator of Creative Concepts Construction.
The Foothills: With over 25 years of experience, how did Creative Concepts Construction originally come to be?
Darren: When I started the business, Creative Concepts Construction primarily focused on finishing carpentry. Like many in this industry, we grew quickly and made the decision to expand our services to include custom woodwork and cabinetry, and then further expanded into full custom residential home builds.
The Foothills: Tell us about the team at Creative Concepts Construction?
Darren: We have a team of 12 full-time employees, 2 of whom work primarily in the office. As needed we hire professionals from various trades for specific tasks within our rotating roster of build projects.
The Foothills: How much of what you do is custom homes vs carpentry or other services?
Darren: Approximately 90% of our projects are Custom Homes.
The Foothills: Is there a certain style of build or philosophy that is unique to you in the world of custom homes?
Darren: We have developed a reputation for West Coast Modern custom homes, as such this is the primary style our clients request.
The Foothills: Shifting our focus to The Foothills, how many homes have you and/or are youc urrently working on?
Darren: We are currently building 2 beautiful custom homes in The Foothills.
The Foothills: Are there any unique challenges building in such a unique landscape the Foothills provides? On the other side of the coin-the benefits?
Darren: Dealing with the unique landscape of The Foothills presents its own set of challenges. However, it also provides us with an opportunity to showcase our creativity by incorporating the natural surroundings into the home design.
The Foothills: Moving away from work, what keeps you busy in the community?
Darren: I am the Head Coach of the Dover Bay Sr Boys Basketball–the school my boys attended. As any parent coaches know, it is a big commitment that requires many of my evenings and weekends throughout the year. I’m fortunate to have strong support from my family and employees. Additionally, we receive generous financial support from almost all of the suppliers and trades that Creative Concepts Construction works with for this basketball program. Without this financial assistance, we would not be able to provide the level of support we do for the basketball team at Dover Bay.
The Foothills: You have raised 3 boys, 2 of whom now work with you–how do you spend your time away from work?
Darren: My family and I are very active. We enjoy spending our time outdoors-biking, hiking, and running on the Island. We also enjoy our family vacations on the beautiful West Coast. We love to work hard and play hard in this beautiful Province.
