Welcome back to another addition of Community Connect, where we feature local businesses and the individuals behind them for an in depth look into our incredible community. This week we are fortunate to steal some time from the incredibly busy crew at Camas, a Lantzville locally loved restaurant inspired by the Pacific Northwest, that focuses on creating incredible dishes and memorable experiences in unison. Camas is owned and operated by spouse-chefs, Sarah and Taka. We asked them about their personal journeys that led them to opening a restaurant, the concept of their kitchen, and why they’ve done it here in Lantzville.

We had the pleasure of hosting Sunday Social Run Club, a community initiative started by founder and runner Sarah Georgica at The Foothills. Over 40 runners tackled a fun forested trail loop with a re-fuel with coffee and treats at our presentation center.

We continue our Homes of The Foothills series where we give you a peek into finished homes and share some inside details about the team's finishings and process behind Foothills homes. We sat down with Richard Wohl, General Manager of Momentum Design Build, to discover his perspective as a building planner and now the owner of his home at The Foothills.

For those of you who are already familiar with the invasive species, you know that our island is highly vulnerable to the growth of this woody weed. It grows rapidly, crowds out native plants, prevents the regrowth of forests, and leads to a dramatic loss of diversity. Recent news coverage by Times Colonist and Chek News has highlighted The Foothills continued commitment, with support from Lantzville’s council, to preserve future old-growth (or FOG’s) forest areas in our community. With a unanimous vote in favour of the new bylaw, two areas totaling 10-15 acres located in the Foothills will be indefinitely protected once approved in the coming weeks.

This week in our Community Connect series we are featuring a magnificent, woman owned, small business operating right here in Lantzville. Wendy Campbell of Re/TOTE is dedicated to repurposing materials set for the landfill and turning them into beautiful accessory pieces that will have many more years of life.

Whether it’s lifestyle, more access to nature, affordability, or just a change of pace, the data is clear: People are moving from the main urban centers, like Vancouver, to instead call Vancouver Island home.

The Foothills Phased Development Amendment Passes 2nd and 3rd Readings

The District of Lantzville will amend its OCP to accommodate a new vision for the Foothills neighbourhood. Immediately following a public hearing July 27, Lantzville council voted in favour of third reading of OCP and zoning bylaw amendments to update the Foothills comprehensive development area plan.

Lantzville council has backed a new design for the Foothills development which now features three neighbourhood centres situated in a way that will allow a large chunk of parkland to be created. Residential construction will be concentrated on the east side of the property, leaving the west side to be consolidated as a park.
